Early Passive Solar Design - 1970's

Beginning as a drafting service in 1977 in Caulfield, Victoria, focus moved to design and construction of a creative, energy efficient residence in Upper Ferntree Gully in 1980, which became the new design office shortly after. From here, many design projects were produced, and numerous construction projects undertaken by Newground Pty. Ltd. as a registered builder with the HIA & MBAV. Whilst continuing the design and drafting practice, the office moved to the Upper Ferntree Gully shopping centre, from where the design and construction of residential and commercial projects, and a 24 shop development at Emerald were undertaken.

Early CAD System - 1988

In 1988, Newground installed a computer aided drafting system, the most advanced of its time, and from this point became committed exclusively to design and drafting. This enabled the company to more effectively focus on the individual designs of clients’ projects, whilst drawing on experience in the construction industry. As technology advanced, by 1995 the business embraced 3D CAD systems, enabling our clients to visualise their proposals far more realistically, with perspective views being provided with each project. These advanced to short video presentations soon after.

In 1996, Newground moved to the current premises at 1151 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully and continues to provide a dedicated design service to both builders and owners. While embracing advances in technology, and the increasing requirements in building regulations, energy efficiency, bushfire standards, council guidelines and the like, we strive to make each project a unique and complete expression of the goals, ideas and culture of each client.
